The report on the protests in Ecuador would be ready in December.
The Inter-American Commission on Human Rights (IACHR) will be holding its 174th Period of Sessions from November 8 to 14, 2019, in Quito, Ecuador. Public hearings on cases of Argentina, Nicaragua, El Salvador, Peru, Jamaica, Uruguay, Mexico, Chile, Brazil, the United States, Venezuela, Guatemala, and Colombia are scheduled for November 11 and 12.
The IACHR President, Esmeralda Arosemena said: “Every democratic world has a duty to guarantee the validity of the Inter-American Human Rights System.”
Arosemena added that the IACHR’s report on its visit to Ecuador -to investigate the events during the October protests- would be ready in December.
President Lenin Moreno said that one of the democratic State characteristics “is the abstention from the use of force, which the State has it.” This, in reference to the announcement of the Confederation of Indigenous Nationalities of Ecuador (CONAIE) leader, Jaime Vargas, who spoke of forming an army of his own.
