This Wednesday, November 11, a shipwreck of more than 100 people was registered in the Mediterranean Sea, among those affected are children and babies. The Spanish NGO, Open Arms, reported that they have managed to rescue the majority, but report 5 deaths.
Those affected are migrants traveling in a boat that, according to various testimonies, broke in half and sank 112 kilometers off the coast of Libya. Open Arms confirmed that the rescued people are safe, but 6 have to be evacuated emergency
The rescue ship had been searching for this group since last Tuesday, November 10, 2020, when the NGO already rescued 88 people who had also been stranded in international waters. According to the authorities, in recent days more cases of shipwrecked migrants have been found in the Mediterranean.
Open Arms also asked the Mediterranean countries to maintain more controls and have emergency teams to help prevent these unfortunate events at sea that connects Africa with Europe.
