In Ecuador 26 minors have been killed by their relatives during the pandemic, according to the Rights Protection Council

The statistics on child violence left by confinement due to the Covid-19 pandemic in the country are alarming.

The statistics according to the Council for the Protection of Rights show that 26 violent deaths of children and adolescents in the hands of those who owe them affection, care and protection, were registered in Ecuador during the mandatory confinement that occurred in the country due to the pandemic Covid-19.

Statistics reveal that in the country 4 out of 10 children are mistreated and suffer severe attacks by their parents or close relatives.

“The pandemic began with the violent death of Paula, a four-year-old girl who was beaten to death by her stepfather,” reported Sybel Martínez, vice president of the Council for the Protection of Rights.

Martínez explained that within the 26 alarming deaths there are 15 girls who were physically abused and were also raped. (C.D.A.)
