UNES demands that the appeal filed against him be dismissed and his participation in the 2021 elections be allowed
It is expected that this Saturday, November 28, 2020, the Plenary of the Contentious Electoral Tribunal (TCE) will decide whether or not the presidential binomial of the political alliance “Unión por la Esperanza (UNES), made up of Andrés Arauz and Carlos Rabascall, will finally participate or not.
The Plenary will have to decide on the appeal presented by Carlos Arboleda and Wilson Freire against the candidates, which seeks to prevent their participation. They question the legality of the political alliance between Centro Democrático and Fuerza Compromiso Social, because the latter organization was eliminated from the electoral registry by the National Electoral Council (CNE), after receiving a report from the Comptroller’s Office.
They assure that, since its elimination, it had no legal status, so all acts are null and void and the alliance could not sponsor any candidacy.
On November 12, the TCE annulled the CNE’s resolution to eliminate the organization that groups correísmo.
Andrés Araúz, candidate for the Presidency, described it as a continuous attack against his political group to prevent their participation. A first appeal has already been filed against the UNES binomial, but it was rejected.
For these attempts to leave them off the ballot, they filed a complaint with the United Nations Covenant on Civil and Political Rights Committee.
The TCE, being a body of last resort, must decide whether to approve the Arauz-Rabascall candidacy or block their participation. At the moment, there are 15 pairs that are qualified and firm for next year’s elections.
There is only the resolution on the UNES binomial and there is also an appeal by which the ECA must rule on the candidacy of Álvaro Noboa to be a candidate for the presidency to finally know what all the candidates for the Presidency will be
