Social organizations recalled that the victims of sexual violence are a group of priority attention, recognized constitutionally.
These organizations delivered to the Constitutional Court an Amicus Curiae and a request for insistence so that the demands for the decriminalization of abortion for rape be addressed.
The representatives of the organizations indicated that women do not have time for the Court to resolve these claims of unconstitutionality of number 2, of article 150 of the Comprehensive Organic Penal Code (COIP).
Since last year, they criticized, the Court has not ruled on two lawsuits that were filed. On November 10, women’s organizations presented a new request for the Court to advance the chronology and to attend this case with priority.
They explained that the law allows the chronology of cases to be advanced, due to the emergency or urgency of the issue. They noted that the pandemic revealed the worst of violence against women. For that reason, they said, it is important that the decriminalization of abortion for rape be treated as a priority.
