Ecuador registers a total of 178.674 confirmed cases of COVID-19 and 12.977 deaths due to the pandemic.
According to the Ministry of Health, 8.642 people died with a positive diagnosis, while 4.335 probably died from the respiratory virus.
Nationwide, there are 462 stable hospitalized patients and 334 with a reserved prognosis. In total, there are 796 hospitalized in one day, while 47 more people were discharged from hospital.
Since the beginning of the pandemic, 154.956 patients have recovered, which represents 88.59% of the total infected. The indicator is updated every Sunday with an average of more than 6.000 people recovering weekly.
Pichincha has 537 new infections and six more deaths in the last 24 hours. At the moment, it is the epicenter of the pandemic in the country. The province adds a total of 63.555 positive cases of the new coronavirus and 2.099 deaths. Quito adds 484 more infected in one day and the total number of cases in the Ecuadorian capital rises to 58.513.
Local authorities have reiterated their decision not to hold events for the next holidays, to stop the contagion and not to collapse, again, the health system, which in recent weeks has increased its occupation.
