Explosion in Cumbayá leaves 19 homes affected

The authorities report eight people injured, two minors and four adults, all are stable

After the explosion registered in a restaurant in Cumbayá, 19 homes were affected. The buildings present from broken glass to structural damage. Additionally, six vehicles had bodywork and windshield damage.

Fire Department Officer Henry Silva reported that the explosion completely damaged the two-story structure.

Upon arrival, they rescued six people: two minors and four adults. In addition, they treated two more wounded. Of the eight, six were transported to medical homes.

In videos and photographs, a large amount of debris is observed on the street, which is why machinery from the Municipality of Quito supports the cleaning of the affected area.

According to the Secretary of Risks, 19 homes were affected by the explosion of a gas tank, which would be the cause according to the first investigations. The houses present from broken glass to structural damage. In addition, 6 vehicles had bodywork and windshield damage.

Personnel from the Intervention and Rescue Group (GIR) specialized in explosives, as well as the Fire Investigation Unit of the Quito Fire Department, carry out the procedures to determine the causes of the explosion that occurred on García Moreno and Manabí streets.
