Man kidnaps 30 people from a bank in Georgia

Among the kidnapper’s demands is the request for USD 500.000, a helicopter, a vehicle and a guarantee of his release.

This Wednesday, October 21, 2020, a man armed with a rifle and a grenade has captured several hostages in a branch of the Bank of Georgia in the center of the city of Zugdidi, in the west of the country.

The first information dictated that there were more than 30 hostages in the building, however, shortly after it was learned that the elderly were released and other people escaped through the roof. The kidnapper demands USD 500.000 and the guarantee of his release.

According to the information handled by the security agents, the man entered the bank with the intention of stealing money. For his part, the Prime Minister of Georgia, Gueorgui Gajaria, hopes that everything that is happening “ends peacefully”.

The Georgian Interior Ministry asked the media not to broadcast live the special operation that is being prepared to free the hostages. According to the testimonies of the people who managed to escape, the attacker fired several times to intimidate the people in the bank and he was also the one who notified the media of the situation.

The situation in the bank of Georgia still remains, the kidnapper warns that if the government does not comply with his requests, the police will be responsible for the lives of the hostages.
