Students return to face-to-face classes at 5 universities
The authorities indicated that face-to-face classes are optional.
Once the National COE approved the pilot plan for the universities of Los Hemisferios, Las Américas (UDLA), International SEK, Politécnica Salesiana and Ecotec, the students return to their face-to-face activities this Monday, October 26.
The students of Mechanical Engineering from SEK International had to undergo a medical check-up to return to class again.
The young people received a medical induction talk prior to entering the laboratories in which they were divided into groups of two for each practice.
Esteban Andrade, vice-rector of SEK University, indicated that the return is gradual and they will do so in accordance with the practices of the 12 undergraduate and 14 master’s degrees.
While at the University of the Americas, undergraduate and graduate students were already expected.
In the province of Guayas, the rector of the Ecotec institution, Gilda Alcívar, assured that the return is optional and will only be 30% of the total number of students in various careers.
According to Juan Zapata, General Director of the Integrated Security Service ECU 911 and member of the National COE, an evaluation will be carried out every 15 days.
Zapata said that the entities in charge of monitoring are the Secretariat of Higher Education, Science, Technology and Innovation (Senescyt) and the Council of Higher Education (CES).
He added that these institutions must inform the National COE about how the piloting is, it will depend on whether or not the authorization is maintained.
The authorities stressed that face-to-face classes are optional, while virtual classes will be maintained.
