This Friday, October 23, 2020, Chile closed the electoral campaign for the constitutional plebiscite, where citizens will decide whether or not to continue with the constitution inherited from the Augusto Pinochet dictatorship.
The supporters of the “approve” gathered in the Baquedano square in the capital, Santiago. This place was the epicenter for many Chileans since the “social outbreak” began, in October 2019.
The protesters have been demanding the difficult access to basic services suffered by many Chileans, also on inequality and against police abuses.
Plaza Baquedano and other important sectors of the Chilean capital have always been protected by the police and the military. The forces of order have used fire hydrant trucks and hundreds of troops to disperse, with violence, the citizens.
