Of the 17 presidential pairs that presented their candidacy, only 4 are already registered and qualified by the electoral organization.
The National Electoral Council closed the registration process for the candidacies for the Presidency, Vice Presidency, National Assembly and Andean Parliament.
Until the last moment, there were several surprises in the registrations, because the Fuerza Ecuador (FE) political party entered the documentation to register their presidential binomial: Miguel Salem and Gustavo Bucaram. However, these candidates did not accept their pre-candidacy in person, therefore, the CNE will take this lack into account for their qualification.
According to the electoral calendar, on January 7, 2021, the deadline for the final list of candidates expires. Therefore, the CNE has 3 months, in the worst case, to confirm the ballot for the next elections.
Of the 17 pairs that submitted the documentation to register their candidacies, only 4 have received the CNE qualification: Guillermo Lasso and Alfredo Borrero (Alianza Creo-PSC); Xavier Hervas and María Sara Jijón (Democratic Left); Gustavo Larrea and Alexandra Peralta (Democracia Sí); Gerson Almeida and Martha Villafuerte (United Ecuadorian).
The CNE and the Contentious Electoral Tribunal (TCE), starting this Thursday, October 8, must resolve objections and appeals. These conflicts are often presented by the candidate parties and movements themselves.
