Leonidas Iza criticized the insufficient response of the Government to the handling of the health, economic and social crisis
“We do not rule out a mobilization, an uprising, we do not rule out another social outbreak and for this not to happen the Government has to listen to everyone,” said the president of the Cotopaxi Indigenous Peasant Movement (MICC), Leonidas Iza, at a press conference , where he expressed his support for the mobilization of workers, teachers and students on September 16.
It is expected that at 4:00 p.m. this Wednesday, the national demonstration by union unions, teachers and students will begin, to which health workers add to demand the insufficient response of the Government to the COVID-19 pandemic.
At a press conference, Iza indicated that the movement he leads will support the demonstration in Quito, in defense of health, education and work.
On behalf of the MICC, he expressed his solidarity with the health workers and teachers who have not received their monthly salary or who have been laid off from their jobs.
He criticized the high unemployment rate in the country and the precarious scenarios with which students must start a school year. “For classes to be taught through virtual platforms, access to the internet should be for everyone. We must understand that only 10% of rural households have this service ”, he added.
