Human rights organizations affirmed that the minister’s statements “offend our history and our struggle.”
The Grandmothers of the Plaza de Mayo, along with other Argentine organizations, rejected the criticism of human rights organizations made by the Buenos Aires Minister of Security, Sergio Berni.
In a statement issued this Monday, they stated that Berni’s statements, referring to the “human rights sector” in a disparaging and stigmatizing manner, “offend our history and our struggle.”
The organizations that signed the text affirmed that “we work for the full validity of human rights in Argentina, we must point out that their sayings cannot take place in a popular movement that has assumed such flags as fundamental pillars for the maintenance of democracy.”
Similarly, they called on the Buenos Aires minister to “deal with the serious problems that the province and the country are facing.”
They stated that “it should focus on addressing the problems of its portfolio, including the unacceptable way in which the Buenos Aires police – under its command – complained in front of the Quinta de Olivos last week and the numerous cases of institutional violence that involve it, including that of Facundo Castro “.
