The first flights will be made to destinations in the region.
As of October 5, Peru will resume international flights as part of the economic reactivation plan.
President Martín Vizcarra announced that international flights will go to some countries in the region.
The measure was announced by Vizcarra from the Government Palace in Lima, where he held a meeting with the Council of Ministers.
The Peruvian president did not give details of the countries where the flights will arrive, but added that they will be those that “are safe from a health point of view.”
He insisted that initially it will be some countries in the region and that for that he has already spoken with the presidents of the countries of South America.
He added that little by little the scales will increase, but always taking into account health protocols.
He commented that to receive a traveler from abroad, a molecular test with a maximum validity of 48 hours will be required, among other things.
With the resumption of flights, travel agencies and authorized tour operators will be able to resume their activities from October.
The Peruvian government adopted this decision after evaluating the statistical data on the number of infections with coronavirus.
According to the latest report from the Ministry of Health, Peru totals 788,930 cases and 31,938 deaths to date.
With 33 million inhabitants, the country is the third in Latin America in cases of coronavirus behind Brazil and Colombia. It is also third in deaths after Brazil and Mexico.
In turn, the president indicated that they will extend the State of Emergency – most likely – until the end of the year, although with new conditions.
He specified that as of October 1, a quarantine will begin focused on some areas of the mountains and the jungle. While, in the regions of Cusco, Moquegua, Puno and Tacna, located in the south of Peru, the measure will be lifted.
The Peruvian Government -in addition- will authorize rail, maritime and river transport of passengers.
