Ecuador tops the list of countries with the most deaths per capita due to the coronavirus

The country ranks seventh with an average of 66.2 deaths per 100.000 inhabitants.

A new study from Johns Hopkins University in the United States revealed that Ecuador is among the 10 countries with the most deaths per capita due to the Covid-19 pandemic worldwide. The country ranks seventh with an estimated 66.2 deaths per 100.000 inhabitants.

Currently this disease has already claimed more than a million lives, but in Ecuador, according to the report of the Ministry of Public Health (MSP) shared on September 29, there are 7.509 deaths confirmed by Covid-19 and 3.803 deaths attributed to this pandemic, although the reports of deaths in the Civil Registry increased notably during the months of the health emergency.

Due to this, Ecuador is part of the list of the 10 countries with the most deaths due to Covid-19 per 100.000 inhabitants (deaths per capita).

This list includes six Latin American countries: Peru, Bolivia, Brazil, Chile, Ecuador and Mexico. Although this does not take into account the total of deaths, but the highest percentage per 100.000 inhabitants.

If the official deaths in each country due to the new coronavirus are taken into account, the list would be different, with the United States leading (206.005), followed by Brazil (142.921), India (97.497), Mexico (77.163), United Kingdom ( 42.162), Italy (35.875), Peru (32.396), France (31.908), Spain (31.614) and Iran (26.169).
