Tonight the CNE will officially call the general elections for next year

The electoral campaign will begin on December 31

The Plenary of the National Electoral Council (CNE) unanimously approved the text of the call for the general elections for next February 7, 2021. Tonight the CNE will make the announcement and officially begin the electoral period in the country.

This Thursday, September 17, the Plenary of the CNE installed the session to know the text of the call for elections, which contains the times established for the electoral period.

Ecuadorians will elect president, vice president, five representatives to the Andean Parliament, 137 representatives to the National Assembly: 15 nationals, 116 provincial assemblymen and six for the constituencies abroad.

Once the president of the CNE, Diana Atamaint, calls elections, the electoral period will begin. From Friday, September 18 to October 7, candidates may register.

The electoral campaign will begin on December 31 until Thursday, February 4, 2021. While the debate between candidates for the Presidency will be held on January 17.

Ecuadorians must vote next Sunday, February 7, 2021.

Voting would take place on April 11, in the event of a second round.

The extension of the electoral day was under debate, but there were no changes, according to the approved text and it will be from 07:00 to 17:00.

On May 24, 2021, the country will possess the next President and Vice President of Ecuador for the next four years.
