Lula da Silva accuses Brazilian President Jair Bolsonaro of turning the coronavirus pandemic into a “weapon of mass destruction” in Brazil.
In an official statement made on Monday, to commemorate Brazil’s Independence Day, the former Brazilian president, Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva again questioned the management of the current president of Brazil, Jair Bolsonaro, on the new coronavirus pandemic, cause of COVID-19, which has become a serious crisis in this country.
“It would have been possible to avoid so many deaths. We are in the hands of a government that does not value life and trivializes death. An insensitive, irresponsible and incompetent government that has ignored the rules of the World Health Organization (WHO) and has turned the coronavirus into a weapon of mass destruction, “lamented the former Brazilian leader.
Along the same lines, the founder of the Workers’ Party (PT), criticized the Government for appointing “military personnel without medical or health experience” at the head of the Ministry of Health, which was temporarily in charge of General Eduardo Pazuello after the dismissal and resignation of two ministers at the height of the pandemic.
In addition, the ex-president of Brazil, lamenting the fact that his country “is living one of the worst periods in its history,” stressed that the measures adopted by the Bolsonaro government when transferring dozens of active military personnel and from the reserve to the federal administration, represents a model of the times of the “dictatorship”.
He also warned that the Brazilian president uses the COVID-19 crisis to subordinate himself to the US Government, “in a humiliating way,” which puts the sovereignty of this country at risk by allowing a Brazilian general to work for the Southern Command and by signing an agreement with the US for the US Administration, chaired by Donald Trump, to control the Alcántara Aerospace Base, in Maranhao, northwest Brazil.
