In Quito there is a wait of 30 patients for a bed in Intensive Care per day

In addition, in August there was a 127% excess mortality, according to the Ministry of Health

The Ministry of Health of the Municipality of Quito reported that, in recent weeks, the Capital registered a slowdown in infections by covid-19, but she stressed that, despite this, there is still an average of 30 to 35 daily patients on the list waiting room for intensive care unit (ICU) beds.

“In these last two weeks we have seen a small slowdown, which does not mean that the pandemic has already passed, but we have seen somewhat less reports of positive cases,” said Francisco Pérez, of that entity.

In the same way, he indicated that there is a drop in the waiting list for hospitalization, but that he attributed it to an increase in the number of beds.

“In IESS hospitals, 130 hospital beds were increased. Also, the Quito Solidario Temporary Care Center, enabled by the council, went from 100 to 170 beds and some hospitals of the Ministry of Health increased the availability of beds.

Pérez also pointed out that as of the third week of August, cases began to decline, in small proportions, of 10 cases a week or less.

On the other hand, the Ministry of Health of the DMQ estimates that in August there was a 127% excess mortality.

Given this, the entity will recommend that the prohibitions of meetings in public spaces be maintained, events that summon more than 25 people, 50% of the capacity of shopping centers, markets, shops; continue with the mandatory use of the mask and social distancing; and that the 50% capacity is maintained in public transport.
