The Minister of Government, María Paula Romo, denied having delivered hospitals as a political quota

She said credibility should not be given “to a person who is prosecuted with serious accusations proven in the process.”

The Minister of Government, María Paula Romo, denied having given hospitals as a political quota “neither directly, nor through Daniel Mendoza or in agreement with him.” The diagram, in which Romo is located in the center of the “cast”, was delivered by Mendoza in his confession to the Prosecutor’s Office.

The digital medium La Posta presented documents and information that would reveal the “distribution” of Public Hospitals in Ecuador. Romo said that hospital director appointments are appointed by whoever heads the health portfolio.

“In this case, they would be the Health Ministers at the time each director was appointed,” added Romo.

Even, said the minister, “several hospital directors are in office before I am Minister of Government.”

Her answer is because of the revelations that the digital medium made. The information would be Mendoza’s confession before the Prosecutor’s Office, which includes Romo’s diagram and the 18 legislators who would have been part of this supposed structure, as well as files that would support his accusation.

The Minister of Government criticized giving credibility “to a person who is prosecuted with serious accusations proven in the process and serving as a tool for him to discharge his frustration and revenge against whoever denounced and investigated him.”

She mentioned that the documentation presented by Mendoza would be forged and confirmed that “I have never” handed over “control of any hospital to anyone”.

In addition, she stated that she never had a close relationship with Daniel Mendoza.

“I had a cordial and polite relationship as I have, even with people who are not nice to me.”

Regarding the appointment of the current Governor of Manabí, Tito Nilton, who was suggested by Mendoza to occupy the position, Romo clarified that, apart from Mendoza, many people suggested the current governor.

“Tito Nilton Mendoza was appointed after a long process. He met with former Vice President Otto Sonnenholzner and then President Lenin Moreno before being appointed. In the offices of the ECU911 Quito, I even spoke with various assembly members from the province of Manabí, analyzing names to occupy that space, ”she added.
