“I take care of myself”, new phase of COVID-19 in Ecuador since September 13

The new modality begins in the country in the context of the COVID-19 pandemic, on September 13, said the director of ECU911, Juan Zapata. Until that day the state of exception will govern (curfew, restrictions), so the Government announced a new campaign “I take care of myself” in which it asks citizens for joint responsibility.

The Minister of Health, Juan Carlos Zevallos, announced that all the decisions they have made in public policy have been based on evidence at the local, national and international levels.

He announced that Ecuador will enter a new phase. The first was a strict isolation, followed by the reactivation with a traffic light mechanism of restrictions and, now, the authorities are calling for citizen co-responsibility.

“Today we need each one to take responsibility. In homage to those who have been in the front line as doctors and nurses ”, added Zevallos.

The director of ECU911, Juan Zapata, said that until September 12 they will have the legal basis to generate restrictive measures, especially in free mobility, transit, meeting and association.

“We can no longer generate a curfew or prohibit public or private meetings,” he said.

The Minister of Government, María Paula Romo, explained that the last 30-day renewal of the state of emergency, on August 15, will be the last that can be applied in the country, after a ruling by the Constitutional Court.

For this reason, Zapata called for self-regulation so that there is a citizen commitment to respect preventive measures of contagion such as the use of masks and social distancing
