In Colombia, international organizations demand an end to the murders of social leaders

Cuba and Norway, countries that are guarantors of the implementation of the Peace Agreement in Colombia, asked the government of this country to adopt reinforced measures to help stop the murder of ex-combatants and social leaders.

In a note, they stated that they share the concern of many political actors in Colombia, governmental and non-governmental, of the United Nations system and of the international community, for the increasing number of former FARC combatants killed since the signing of the peace agreement.

Also, social leaders and human rights defenders, adds the text signed by Javier Caamaño Cairo, guarantor for Cuba; and by Jon Otto Brødholt, for the Kingdom of Norway.

The parties assure in the note that this serious situation weakens the peace process and endangers the lives of many Colombians and the implementation of the Agreement reached between the Revolutionary Armed Forces of Colombia-People’s Army (FARC-EP) and the government of that country, in 2016.

More than 215 ex-guerrillas, reincorporated to civil life, have been assassinated in Colombia since then.

Likewise, in recent days at least three massacres against young people and minors in the country have generated great consternation and concern because such events put the peace reached after almost four years of talks in Havana, Cuba at risk.
