Isaías became during this Friday the second hurricane of the 2020 season with winds of 130 km / h and higher gusts that are felt in the eastern region of Cuba, according to the Cuban Institute of Meteorology (Insmet). The eastern region of the country was put into the information phase (the first of three, in the Cuban scheme), before passing through the vicinity of Isaías.
Although the direct impact of the meteorological phenomenon was not expected, abundant rains and windstorms were estimated in that portion of the national territory.
On the previous day, significant winds gusts were already reported in some eastern cities, such as Bayamo, Granma (800 km southeast of Havana), with records of 92 km / h and in Punta de Maisí (the eastern Cuban extreme) the winds were 75 km / h.
The Insmet announced that this Friday strong tidal waves have been reported in the north east, with wave heights between 4 and 6 meters and moderate coastal flooding in Baracoa.
The effects of Isaías will persist during the day this Friday when it spreads to the rest of the north eastern coast, with light to moderate coastal flooding in low areas of that coastline.
It is announced that, as the system moves over the eastern Bahamas, the areas of cloudy with showers and rains in the eastern region will increase, which can be strong in some localities, especially in mountainous areas, predominant relief in that region.
