Quito is close to overtaking Guayaquil in confirmed cases of coronavirus

Pichincha reports 252 new infections in the last 24 hours. There are now 12,956 people infected with coronavirus.

Ecuador reports 1,040 new infections and 59 more deaths in the last 24 hours. The country has 77,257 confirmed cases of COVID-19 and 8,825 deaths from this pandemic. Quito has 11,741 infected, 29 less than Guayaquil, the city most affected by the virus.

The Ministry of Health reports that there are 77,257 confirmed cases, 104,758 discarded, 5,418 deaths with a positive prognosis and 3,407 deaths suspected of carrying the virus.

Regarding the situation of infected people: 37,666 are in home isolation, 735 are stable hospitalized and 313 with a reserved prognosis. In total, there are 1,048 hospitalized patients. While 10,068 people were discharged from hospital and 17,157 were discharged epidemiologically.

In 24 days, the government report does not report new recovered patients and has remained at 5,900 since June 29, 2020.

Quito has between 150 and 250 cases a day, with two significant peaks: on July 1 there were 711 new infections and 615 on July 21.
