Bolivia broke record of infections by Covid-19 in one day

Santa Cruz, El Alto, La Paz and Cochabamba report saturated hospitals and collapsed cemeteries.

Bolivia closed the day on Friday with a record of 1946 Covid-19 infections in 24 hours. A day earlier, the Ministry of Health of the Andean country had reported 1,938 infected.

The Santa Cruz region is the most affected by the advance of the pandemic in Bolivia. There are between 40 and 50 people infected every hour. At the moment, in that department there are 28,989 confirmed cases, while in La Paz there are 8,209 infections.

The director of the Departmental Health Service, Marcelo Ríos, reported that in the last five days there was an average of 1,000 daily cases, and attributes the increase in infected people to disrespect for quarantine measures.

In Bolivia there are 2,049 deaths with coronavirus, 65 of them died this Friday, July 17, according to figures from the Bolivian Ministry of Health, collected by the La Tercera portal.
