In Ecuador there are 46 cases of Multisystemic Inflammatory Syndrome

37 cases were registered until July 7. There are more affected in Guayas and Manabí

The country registers 46 cases of Multisystemic Inflammatory Syndrome, associated with COVID-19, in children and adolescents under the age of 19 until this July 19, 2020. Of these, 39 children were taken PCR laboratory samples, four were positive, 19 Negatives and 16 samples are awaiting their results.

The ministry reports that they were unable to take the test on the remaining seven cases, so they are considered probable cases.

Of the 46 reported cases, one was ruled out and died with a diagnosis of viral pneumonia. Of the remaining 45, 11 have required hospitalization and three intensive care.

Of this group, 2 were registered in Azuay, 15 in Guayas, 7 in Los Ríos, 12 in Manabí, 7 in Pichincha and 1 in Esmeraldas, Tungurahua and Zamora Chinchipe.

The country had 37 positive diagnoses for SIM as of July 7.

The World Health Organization (WHO), on May 15, alerted countries to take the necessary measures to prevent the spread of this disease that affects children and adolescents.

The Ministry of Health issued the alert on May 31 of this year to be able to adequately and timely treat the cases.

Symptoms are: fever over 38 degrees, stomach pain, diarrhea and rash on palms, trunk and face.
