(Prensa Latina) At least seven political parties in Brazil joined together in the so-called Windows for Democracy to call today for the removal of President Jair Bolsonaro for dismantling essential public policies and ideological speech of hate.
The joining together of the Workers’ Party (PT), Communist Party of Brazil (PCdoB), Sustainability Network (REDE), Labour Democrat (PDT), Brazilian Socialist (PSB), and Citizenship and Green (PV) parties confirms, according to movement organizers, that the blocs ‘will put aside differences to focus on a common goal.’
With this second edition of Windows for Democracy, which will take place on Tuesday at 7:30pm local time, it is intended to build a ‘broad front’ against the attacks promoted by Bolsonaro and his allies.
The first edition was promoted in May by PDT, PSB, PV and REDE. In the second, on June 18, Ciudadania, a party aligned with the center, joined the group.
‘The movement is an important step that the forces of the left and progressive organizations are taking towards the removal of the worst president Brazil has ever had,’ said PT president Gleisi Hoffmann.
She assured that ‘for the sake of Brazil and the workers, we urgently need to stop this chaos with the impeachment (of Bolsonaro) and the approval of the constitutional amendment to call for new elections,’ Hoffmann pointed out.
The media assure that, so far 48 requests for impeachment to Bolsonaro have been sent to the Chamber of Deputies and are paralyzed.
For this reason, Windows for Democracy will act to reinforce social pressure until Congress decides to consider the requests.
