1,215 cases of COVID-19 in the Ecuadorian Amazon

The province most affected by the advance of the pandemic is Pastaza, with 491 confirmed cases.

The Confederation of Indigenous Nationalities of the Ecuadorian Amazon (CONFENIAE) reported, this Wednesday, July 1, 2020, that there are 1,215 confirmed cases of COVID-19 and 37 deaths from the disease.

With 2,673 tests carried out, the Kichwa nationality reports the highest number of positive cases with 675, followed by the Waorani people with 295 people infected with coronavirus.

622 suspected cases remain and it is confirmed that the virus is of community transmission in up to 60% in the Amazon territories.

Nationalities of the Ecuadorian Amazon are highly vulnerable to the new virus, so they have called on the national and international community to join donations of biosafety supplies, masks, food and medicine
