Ecuador has the highest mortality rate in the world

A study carried out by the Financial Times indicates that our country surpasses the rest of the world.

An analysis by the British newspaper Financial Times ranks Ecuador as the country with the highest mortality rate in the world caused by the coronavirus pandemic.

The mass media crossed the numbers of deaths in excess with the historical average registered in different countries and Ecuador occupies the first place.

According to that analysis, our country has 21,500 excess deaths until June 17. This means a rate higher than 1,000 excess deaths per million inhabitants. Spain, the United Kingdom and Peru follow.

Likewise, a national media outlet determined that between March 1 and June 15 about 20,400 deaths were registered above the average of previous years in the Civil Registry. However, that figure may vary with the passing of days.

So far, the provinces most affected by the health crisis are Guayas, Santa Elena, Manabí, El Oro, Los Ríos and Santo Domingo, only taking into account registered deaths.
