Bolivian coup plotters recognize their inability to fight the Pandemic

La Paz, June 22 (Prensa Latina) The Ministry of Health of the de facto government of Bolivia recognized today its inability to confront the Covid-19 pandemic, as it marks the third month of the quarantine imposed in the country to confront it.

There is a real risk that the Andean nation’s medical facilities will collapse and the number of deaths will increase, admitted the head of epidemiology at the Ministry of Health, Virgilio Prieto, in statements to the Unitel network.

People are dying, there will be no spaces in hospitals, said the official, after the country reported 773 deaths from the disease (33 of them today) and 24,388 confirmed cases.

Prieto said that the agenda of other national activities should be marked by the epidemic and called for something to be done to try to control it and prevent further spread.

Due to the increase in the victims and their possible aggravation until September, the specialist speculated that the presidential elections could not possibly be held, referring to the official announcement yesterday about the possible holding of the elections.

De facto President Jeanine Áñez announced this Sunday that she will enact the law for the holding of presidential elections on September 6.

Bolivian health institutions have applied the so-called strict quarantine against the Covid-19 pandemic since last March 22, through various stages, the last one since June 1.

The numbers of positive cases of the new coronavirus keep increasing in the last hours, with daily peaks that exceed one thousand patients.

The ex-president of the country Evo Morales considered in statements via Twitter that “the de facto government is blindly leading the pandemic.”

According to the political leader, the replacement in a short time of three health ministers and the abandonment of the governorships and mayorships by the Executive demonstrate that these authorities “contradict each other”.
