Since mid-April, only of the complaints made on the website, the Prosecutor’s Office processes 2,287 cases
In the week of May 25 to 31, there was an increase in complaints of sexual harassment and abuse in the country. Since the option to report through the website of the State Attorney General’s Office became effective, alerts have increased.
This Tuesday, June 2, the Prosecutor’s Office reported that, prior to the health emergency, the Prosecutor’s Office received an average of 6,585 complaints per week. Currently they have been reduced to 1,824, that is to say, 72% less.
But since the Prosecutor’s Office implemented the complaints service through the website, there has been a slight increase. From May 25 to 31, 3,073 forms were registered. After the legal analysis, the entity processes 2,287 cases of alleged crimes of gender or intra-family violence.
In other crimes, the Prosecutor General’s Office reports that, in relation to the reports of violent deaths, in the week of May 25 to 31 there is also an increase in the crimes of homicide and murder.
Theft and theft complaints decreased after the declaration of a curfew and state of emergency, but there was an increase in the last week of May.
Guayas registers 406 cases, which is the highest number of those prosecuted for breach of legitimate decisions of the competent authority, followed by Manabí with 149 and Azuay with 113. Of the total of those processed, 28.8% were ordered to preventive detention.
