Ecuador is one of the countries that hardly invests to fight the COVID-19 crisis in Latin America

A team of researchers from Columbia University, United States, carried out a study to show the amount of resources that governments in 168 countries have invested to face the coronavirus pandemic.

This report shows the percentage of money spent by each country, referring to the total of its Gross Domestic Product (GDP).

Governments around the world have invested an exorbitant amount of money to mitigate this pandemic, research shows, with global spending approaching $ 7.2 trillion.

The list of countries that invested the most money in their health systems to combat this virus was Japan with 21% of GDP, followed by Luxembourg (20%), and Belgium (19%).

Among the countries that -for various reasons- have not invested additional resources to those that were included in their fiscal budget are Turkmenistan, Yemen, Oman or Algeria.

In the list, Ecuador is one of the countries that invested less amount of money to strengthen its health system and to combat the side effects caused by the pandemic, the money invested would be close to just 0.5% of total GDP.
