Two prison guides of the Cotopaxi Social Rehabilitation Center are infected with COVID-19

At the Cotopaxi Social Rehabilitation Center (CRS), two prison guides tested positive for COVID-19. There are more than 10 guides nationwide that are infected.

The National Comprehensive Care Service for Persons Deprived of Liberty (SNAI) confirmed that the test was applied to both guides and, once the results were obtained, the security protocols were applied.

Both guides are in home isolation. So far, no more cases of coronavirus are reported in the Cotopaxi CRS.

In the country’s prison system, until the end of April, 9 guards with COVID-19 are reported: six are from the Provisional Detention Center (CDP) of Quito. In addition, on April 17, Jimmy E., a PPL of this Center, died in a health home.

International organizations have expressed the need to apply specific protocols in the country’s prisons, due to the concentration of people deprived of liberty. Since the emergency began, the SNAI has carried out several disinfections in the CRS in the country.
