The Guasmo Sur, Teodoro Maldonado Carbo and Los Ceibos hospitals in Guayaquil are investigated for the mishandling of corpses
The Prosecutor’s Office identified 45 bodies that rested, for several days, in morgues and containers of Guayaquil hospitals. There are several investigations into alleged negligence of hospital officials in handling corpse identification during the health emergency.
The Guayas prosecutor, Yanina Villagómez, indicated that the bodies were transferred to the cemeteries provided by the Guayaquil Mayor’s Office.
Anthropological identification was applied by means of physical characteristics, such as height, particular signs, tattoos, among others, as well as the technical-scientific fingerprint method, where the fingerprints of the deceased were collected to check them against the Civil Registry database. .
For the alleged mismanagement of corpses, the Prosecutor’s Office is investigating the Guasmo Sur, Teodoro Maldonado Carbo and Los Ceibos hospitals in Guayaquil, for the alleged crime of non-compliance with legitimate decisions of the competent authority, indicated in article 282 of the Comprehensive Organic Code.
