In the indigenous communities of the Amazon there are 57 cases of coronavirus

Since May 11, 10 cases have increased. The leadership asks the Government to be treated.

Through its Twitter account, the Confederation of Indigenous Nationalities of the Ecuadorian Amazon (Confeniae), reported that 57 confirmed cases of coronavirus are already registered among their communities.

Of that number of infected, 15 are Siekopai (Sucumbíos); 15 Kichwas (Santa Clara – Pastaza); 24 Kichwas (Napo); 2 (Achuar – Pastaza); and 1 (Shuar – Zamora).

Days ago, in a virtual press conference, the president of the Confederation of Indigenous Nationalities of Ecuador (Conaie), Jaime Vargas, exposed the alleged lack of attention by the Executive to indigenous communities.

On that occasion, the leadership already exposed the COVID-19 case registry in the Amazonian provinces; as in other parts of the Sierra. Only until May 11 there were already 47 confirmed cases with the disease in the Amazon

Marlon Vargas, head of the Confeniae, said that, in addition to the coronavirus, the inhabitants of the Amazon face other diseases such as dengue and problems with floods.

Indigenous leaders are also concerned about the lack of rapid tests to diagnose COVID-19 in their communities.
