More compatriots want to return to the country

According to the Foreign Ministry, almost all those who were stranded due to lack of flights have returned, but there are people on the waiting list who had planned to travel in other months.

Foreign Minister José Valencia reported that 4 466 Ecuadorians out of 8 400 that appear in the registry of consulates and embassies have already returned to the country.

Valencia commented that the compatriots were stranded in other countries due to the flight restriction that has been applied since March 16 due to the pandemic by COVID-19.

He noted that the number varies daily because the nationals continue to register to return.

He commented that diplomatic missions have obtained discounts of at least 10% on tickets so that they can travel.

He clarified that almost all the people who were unable to return to the country because the flights were suspended have already returned and that now those who had planned to return to Ecuador in other months are missing.

In the list are 1,300 students who are looking to return because there are no longer face-to-face classes at the universities where they were.

He recalled that the expenses are not covered by the State, but by each of the compatriots, and pointed out that everything must be coordinated since they must comply with the 14 days of isolation upon arrival before being reunited with their relatives.
