Ecuador requests more resources from the IMF to respond to the health emergency

The new loan would be USD 500 million.

On April 30, the International Monetary Fund (IMF) will analyze the request of the Government of Ecuador to access an emergency loan for approximately USD 500 million. At least, this is foreseen in the calendar of meetings of the board of the multilateral organization.

The loan is in the range of the Quick Financing Instrument (IFR) and is intended to address the health emergency due to the coronavirus and the drastic drop in the price of oil.

In addition, the government is awaiting a new medium-term economic agreement, which will replace the program agreed the previous year.

In order to respond to the emergency, the Ministry of Finance plans to have USD 2.5 billion from multilateral and bilateral organizations.
