More than 8 thousand compatriots want to return to the country

The Foreign Ministry has a registry of 8,365 Ecuadorians who want to return to the country in the midst of the health emergency due to COVID-19.

This figure corresponds to the number of registered in the different consulates. This was confirmed by Minister José Valencia.

According to information from the Foreign Ministry, until April 22, 2,879 people arrived in the country on different flights.

Of the more than 8,000 registered, 5,000 are in the United States. Several of them traveled to Miami to wait there for a flight that would allow them to return to their land.

The list not only includes the people who took the suspension of flights abroad, but people who are affected in other nations by the spread of the virus, despite having residence.

Valencia commented that in Peru there is the case of at least 30 Ecuadorians who find it difficult to stay in that country.

In the group of those who want to return there are about 1,800 students.

For the official it is difficult to say when the return of the compatriots will be completed in its entirety.

In addition, he clarified that it is necessary for people arriving in the national territory to comply with the quarantine period, because otherwise there would be a risk of possible contagion.

He announced that an Iberia flight will arrive next week to repatriate Spanish citizens.

He maintained that the Government will only be in charge of coordinating the flights, but the expenses must be borne by each of the citizens.
