CUT rejects measures implemented by the Government in the context of the health crisis

The organization ask health care attention for all Ecuadorians and protection for the rights of workers

Through a statement, the Central Unitaria de Trabajadores (CUT) rejected the measures implemented by the Government because they deepen the economic, social and labor crisis, in the context of the country’s health emergency.

In a document that collected 22 points, the CUT expressed solidarity with families who have lost their loved ones due to the lack of medical attention due to the pandemic.

The Central questioned the lack of protection and biosecurity equipment for doctors and health workers, as well as other public and private sector work sectors.

He also criticized the layoffs in the public and private sectors. At this point, he specified that there are companies that interpret and avail themselves of Article 169, numeral 6 of the Labor Code, which establishes that a contract can be terminated for reasons of “fortuitous event or force majeure”.

In this framework, the organization increased the legalization of what they consider labor violations by taking for granted supposed agreements that go against the rights of workers, as well as declaring unconstitutional the desire to establish a tax on the remuneration of public employees and private with labor reforms raised in the Humanitarian Support Bill that are being analyzed by the Assembly.

The head of this union, Richard Gómez, demanded timely and quality medical attention to the members of the IESS and the Rural Insurance

He requested job stability and delivery of protection supplies for public and private workers who risk their lives to keep the services and supply of products in the country enabled.

He demanded that the Ministry of Labor immediately convene the National Council of Labor and Wages so that agreements can be reached on a tripartite basis to guarantee employment and labor rights.

He urged the IESS to urgently screen the COVID tests for all its affiliates and retirees to facilitate the MSP to acquire and carry out these tests for the rest of Ecuadorians.

The CUT endorsed the White Apron Heroes Bill which has the unanimous support of the National Assembly and aspires to also include all workers who risk their health to keep public services enabled.

Inside the Central there is discomfort for the possibility of fixing taxes that affect the Ecuadorian people, as well as they do not agree with a cross death.

The agency proposed the preparation and urgent dispatch of a draft Capital Repatriation Law, as well as that the SRI collect outstanding debts.

In relation to the BIESS, the CUT expects that collections without interest surcharge on mortgage loans and unsecured loans will be suspended for four months and to avoid the illiquidity of the entity, the debts of the delinquent businessmen will be executed.

For the Central these resources will contribute to add liquidity to the State.

As for the provincial and cantonal GADs, the union proposed to suspend expenses related to commemorations of festive dates or other expenses that are not related to guaranteeing the health of citizens.

In the educational field, it supported the teaching profession and students so that the Government provides Internet service to those who require it and reduces pension values ​​in private schools and colleges by 30%.

Finally, they called on the people to be vigilant because, in general, economic groups have always been beneficiaries with remission of fines and interests.
