Three prison guides are infected and there is another PPL in a health home awaiting their result
The National Service for Attention to Persons Deprived of Liberty (SNAI) reported that on the morning of this April 17, April 2020, a PPL who was detained at the Provisional Deprivation Center died in a health home from El Inca, in Quito.
So far, the SNAI confirmed that there are three positive cases for COVID-19 of prison guards and two deprived of liberty are in health homes. Jimmy E. was one of them and died of “Covid positive viral pneumonia.”
He was a former prison officer and was transferred from the Deprivation Center to the Pablo Arturo Suarez General Hospital, where patients with coronavirus were treated on April 7.
Due to the registration of several infected in this Center, a space was set up for three doctors from the Ministry of Health to attend the inmates and determine the necessary measures against infections.
Last weekend the first case was detected in the prison system. He was a prison guide who tested positive and, for this reason, about 45 people are isolated, who maintained contact with him.
The SNAI reported that it coordinated with the Ministry of Health a 15-day medical campaign. “With these sessions it is intended that the entire prison population of the CPPL Quito-El Inca receive care to take the necessary measures and protect their health,” the statement said.
