Francisco Xavier Solórzano assumes the vice-ministry of Governance and Health Surveillance

Changes in the Ministry of Health are taking place amid the health emergency due to the coronavirus.

Francisco Xavier Solórzano was appointed as the new Vice Minister of Governance and Health Surveillance. While Julio López, who held that position, will serve as Assistant Secretary.

The changes of authorities in the Ministry of Health were confirmed this Tuesday, April 14.

Santiago Carrasco, president of the Ecuadorian Medical Federation (FME), reported that Solórzano is an epidemiologist and belongs to that union.

Carrasco said that the new vice minister meets three criteria that the Federation has insisted over these years: honesty, commitment and solidarity.

Among the functions that Solórzano must fulfill are the definition of public policies, models, norms, strategies and other tools that ensure the governance of the National Health System.

There is also public health surveillance, promotion and protection of collective health.
