Control operations are carried out in markets to curb speculation

Twelve people have been arrested for speculating on the prices of basic necessities.

Since the health emergency was declared in Quito on March 12, 12 people have been detained (6 in the capital and 6 in Rumiñahui) for speculation. This was reported by the Pichincha deputy mayor, Cristian Paredes.

A special operation to control prices and public space was carried out from 04:00 on Tuesday, March 31, at the Las Cuadras market in Chillogallo, in southern Quito.

Until 7:41, no detainees were reported during this operation, in which nearly 200 people from the Pichincha Administration, the Security Secretariat, the Corps of Metropolitan Agents, the Armed Forces, and the Metropolitan Control Agency (AMC) participated.

César Díaz, Secretary of Security of the Municipality, indicated that one of the objectives of the intervention is to prevent the commercialization of products on the outskirts of the supply center.

“This way of doing business goes against public health prevention policy, they are sources of infection. As citizens we must support and collaborate with the authority, “said the official.

It emerged that in the coming days, the incursions into other markets will be reinforced to combat the increase in prices.
