Children, adolescents, pregnant women and older adults can return to Ecuador

The government designed a protocol for the return of citizens, but they must remain in quarantine.

The Emergency Operations Committee (COE) already has the protocol ready to allow the return to the country of children, adolescents, pregnant women, people with disabilities and older adults who were stranded abroad due to the suspension of international flights due to the pandemic of the coronavirus.

The regulation serves to prioritize the return of Ecuadorians and involves different entities to organize them.

As part of the procedure, consulates will notify the existence of cases of vulnerable people abroad. In turn, the Foreign Ministry will inform the COE which organizations should participate in the repatriation to make the respective coordination.

Subsequently, it will correspond to the Civil Aviation Directorate to authorize the operation of the flights.

According to the sanitary measures implemented, once the passengers arrive in the country they will be evaluated by a doctor and they will undergo the COVID-19 test.

Likewise, it is the obligation of all returnees to comply with a 14-day isolation and in the event that the result of the examination is positive, treatment will be carried out.

This protocol brings hope to groups of students who left the country through exchanges and were trapped in other countries.

The mayor of Quito, Jorge Yunda, asked that the process be managed with all the sanitary guarantees so that the quarantine is complied with, in order to avoid possible risks of contagion.

Other groups of tourists will have to wait for provisions to establish their returns.

Until March 25, two flights were ready to bring Ecuadorians from Mexico and the United States, for various reasons.
