Half of the medical staff at Hospital La Paz in Madrid test positive for Covid-19

In total, of the 128 workers who passed in recognition of the Covid-19, 52% have turned out to be infected.

Since the beginning of this crisis, health workers have regretted and denounced as active and passive the lack of means they are facing. Today, half of the health professionals who underwent the coronavirus test yesterday at the La Paz Hospital in Madrid have tested positive.

In total, of the 128 workers who passed in recognition of the Covid-19, 52% have turned out to be infected, according to the newspaper Voz Populi, citing CCOO sources.

The Central Union and Independent Officials (CSIF) and SATSE have been asking for protection materials for these health professionals for days. SATSE indicates that Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) is “basic to prevent contagion among the thousands of residents of public nursing homes.”

“Nurses and nurses, explains Valiente, we can become the focus of transmission of the Covid-19 and the spread in a residence is very fast. Although disinfection is daily, armchairs or handrails are a vehicle for the transmission of the disease that is impossible to control, with the Nursing professionals themselves being able to spread it in the absence of PIDs, ”they point out from the majority union of nurses.

Recesvinto Valiente, SATSE Madrid delegate at AMAS and a nurse in a public residence for the elderly, affirms, without hesitation, that “there are residences where they are bad and in others, worse. There is none where there is no lack of material. Nurses have to find some protection elements by their own means, since no one from the Ministry provides it to them ”.

The reality is that, as in the Sermas-dependent centers, there are nurses with mild symptoms that may be compatible with those produced by the Covid-19 but who, in the absence of evidence that certify it, continue to work and taking care of the residents in these public nursing homes. “We ask that they be done but they are not done,” concludes Recesvinto Valiente.
