This Wednesday, El Salvador and Nicaragua reported on their first cases of coronavirus (Covid-19). With these confirmations, the virus is present, then, in all the countries of Latin America and the Caribbean, except for Haiti and Belize.
With the confirmation this Wednesday of El Salvador and Nicaragua of cases of Covid-19, only two countries in Latin America and the Caribbean do not report the disease: Haiti and Belize.
Although measures were taken in El Salvador prior to the arrival of the virus, a man from Italy was the first confirmed case.
In this regard, the president of that Central American nation, Nayib Bukele, assured that “he must have entered through a blind spot and was identified in Metapán”, a town in the west of the country, near the borders with Guatemala and Honduras.
Likewise, the vice president of Nicaragua, Rosario Murillo, said that the first case in that country was a 40-year-old man who was in Panama from March 13 to 15, returned to the country on March 16, and presented symptoms.
On the morning of this Thursday, 1,877 infected people were reported in the region.
However, throughout the day there were new confirmations. Mexico registered its first death and Venezuela released six positives, for a total of 42 cases. Colombia already raises the total of confirmations to 106.
The country that most infected added was Chile, with 103 new positives, to reach the figure of 342. For its part, Brazil is the country on the continent with the most infected people (428).
During the last 24 hours, 19 deaths have been reported. Brazil (4), Ecuador (3), Argentina (3), Dominican Republic (2), Mexico (1), Panama (1), Costa Rica (1), Cuba (1), Guatemala (1), Jamaica (1 ) and Guyana (1) added fatalities. (C.D.A.)
