Palestine denounces systematic Israeli assaults on sacred sites

The Palestinian government denounced that some 48 thousand settlers and members of Israeli ultra-right groups violated in 2022 more than 260 times the religious sites in the occupied territories, including the Jerusalem Esplanade of the Mosques.

In its annual report, the Ministry of Endowments and Religious Affairs criticized plans to Judaize the site, located in occupied East Jerusalem.

Last week, Israeli National Security Minister Itamar Ben Gvir provoked the ire of Palestinians and Muslims in general after touring the Esplanade.

The site is revered by both Muslims, who call it the Noble Sanctuary, and Jews, who know it as the Temple Mount.

For Muslims because the Al Aqsa Mosque is inside it, while for the latter because their two biblical temples were built there.

According to the report, the Israelis also prevented in 2022 the call to prayer on 613 occasions at the Ibrahimi Mosque, in the city of Hebron, revered by Jews, who know the site as the Tomb of the Patriarchs.
