CAN calls to start off Russia-Ukraine Peace Talks

The Summit of the Andean Community of Nations (CAN) on Monday called for peace between Russia and Ukraine, in a statement by Colombian President Gustavo Petro.

Summit´s final declaration included “a joint call for peace to actors involved and a prompt peaceful solution to the conflict”.

The economic and social bloc -made up of Bolivia, Colombia, Ecuador and Peru, expressed its deepest concern about Russia-Ukraine conflict´s adverse impact on food supply chains due to the increased input costs and poor fertilizer supply output.

Presidents Luis Arce, Guillermo Lasso and Pedro Castillo expressed their willingness to seek joint solutions to ease such effects.

In this regard, President Petro stated this conflict is a pressing and priority issue to solve, which really impacts agricultural output and food safety for the four countries.

It is, he added, a war that “threatens to spread in time , involving in one way or another other nations, so that´s why we call for peace talks between Russia and Ukraine. These talks will make it possible for the word war not to be mentioned any more.
