Ecuador´s Public Health Ministry (MSP, in Spanish) on Monday reported the first death of monkeypox virus in the South American nation.
In a statement, MSP detailed that new death was due to a pre-existing disease, but without further particulars.
MSP also reported about three new monkeypox cases, bringing the country´s overall total to 10.
Monkeypox-infected people, aging 20 to 49, were identified in the provinces of Santa Elena, Los Ríos and Azuay.
According to MSP´s latest reports, patients have shown a stable progress at their respective homes and the epidemiological lockdown of their close contacts has already been eliminated.
Finally, MSP once again called population to keep biosafety measures, including hand-washing with soap and water or alcohol gel.
In case of symptoms, MSP highly recommends wearing face coverings and going to nearest doctor or health center.
