Egyptian Minister of Electricity and Renewable Energy Mohamed Shaker inaugurated a new solar power plant in the country’s eastern region, an official source reported on Wednesday.
A communique from that Ministry stated that the plant was built on land adjacent to the Chinese fiberglass production factory in the industrial zone in Ain Sokhna.
During the ceremony, Shaker highlighted the Government’s efforts to increase the use of this energy, the text detailed.
According to its Integrated Sustainable Energy Strategy, Egypt intends to increase the supply of electricity generated from renewable sources to 42 percent by 2035.
Walid Gamal El-Din, chairperson of the Suez Canal Economic Zone, said that the project is a further boost to the strategy to progress the use of those technologies.
In July, the cabinet highlighted that Egypt tops the lists of Arab countries in combined solar and wind power generation by totaling 3.5 gigawatts, although the figure will grow to 6.8 gigawatts by 2024.
