The National Council of Ecuador will make the call for local elections

This Monday, August 22, the registration of candidates will begin in the provincial electoral delegations.

The National Electoral Council (CNE), officially starts the process for local elections and the Council for Citizen Participation and Social Control (CPCCS), scheduled for next February 5, 2023.

The call will be made through the media where the CNE authorities will explain the details of the elections to the public.

On February 5 of next year, Ecuadorians will elect a total of 5,690 authorities, including prefects, mayors, councilors, members of parish councils and CPCCS councillors.

23 prefects, 221 mayors, 1,307 councilors, 4,109 parish council members and 7 CPCCS councilors will be elected.

According to the electoral schedule, the registration of candidates will begin this Monday, August 22, in the provincial electoral delegations and the process will conclude on September 20.

80 million ballots will be used and 13,450,047 citizens are authorized to vote, according to the latest electoral register.

The electoral campaign will begin on January 3 and will run until February 2. Two debates between candidates are also planned, on January 14 and 15, which will be organized by the electoral authorities.

The budget for the elections next February will be 97 million dollars and the newly elected authorities will take office on May 14, 2023.
