Three Ecuadorians died in a traffic accident in Mexico

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Human Mobility of Ecuador reported that 11 Ecuadorians are part of the group of migrants who suffered a traffic accident on August 12, at km 62 of the El Seco – Azumbilla highway, in Puebla, Mexico.

The driver of the truck where the migrants were traveling lost control of the vehicle due to a mechanical failure.

According to the Foreign Ministry, three people, including a one-year-old baby, died; three more are in serious condition (including one under 7 years old).

The entity indicated that these data were shared by the Consulate of Ecuador in Mexico, after the authorities of that country confirmed personal information of the migrants.

The consulate also indicated that it is in permanent contact with the relatives of the Ecuadorian migrants who suffered the accident in which at least 17 people of different nationalities were involved, who were seeking to arrive irregularly in the United States.

The Foreign Ministry said that it will report on the progress of the investigations carried out by the Mexican authorities.

It is presumed that the Ecuadorian citizens would be from Pichincha, Azuay and Cotopaxi. At the moment, the verification is carried out through fingerprints.

On Facebook, William Murillo, spokesman for the organization, gave this tragedy as an example so that people take into account that such a trip is very dangerous.

“Innocent minors have died, risking their lives with coyoteros is not worth it,” he wrote.

The Ecuadorian ambassador in Mexico, Francisco Carrión, prefers to have more information on this subject to give his opinion, since it is something delicate. However, he said that people want to go to the United States and to do so they must go through Mexico.
